Bee Maps (formerly Hivemapper) is a mapping project that seeks to supplant Google Maps and Google Streetview by using people who already drive all around the globe to provide fresh map data daily which will keep the map updated.
This works by utilizing people who already drive during the day. Drivers install 1 Bee mapping dash camera facing forward, either below the rear view mirror inside the vehicle or on the roof. The camera provides map data between sun-up and sundown while you drive. The Bee comes in 2 models. Both have built in Wifi, allowing you to connect to the camera with your smartphone and upload the data through the Bee Maps app to the Hivemapper foundation. The LTE model allows you to install a data Sim card into the camera allowing for automatic uploading without connecting a smartphone. That's it. You drive during the day, the camera collects the data, and the app or simcard takes it out of the camera and sends it to the Hivemapper foundation. You're paid every Thursday in $Honey to your crypto wallet.

You can buy your own camera or cameras through Beemaps.com and there are now only two different versions of the same camera, the Bee, available. All previous Hivemapper models have been discontinued. The Bee offers the standard WIFI model and a WIFI and LTE model. so that mapping can be done and uploaded without a cell phone present. I have ordered 9 LTE and WIFI models in January of 2024 and am still waiting.

Unfortunately at this time the Bee camera does not support the original Fleet program of driver recruitment and token splits. The current fleet model is based on one business owner whom owns all the vehicles for their business and outfits their vehicles with cameras they control. All vehicle Bee dashcams are registered to one crypto wallet and all earnings are paid to it.
